CORESTA Smokeless Tobacco Sub-Group - Working Group 2 - 2009 Collaborative Study Report

STS Final Report (updated)

July 2010 - updated Jan 2016 Ref. STS-042-CTR

This study was carried out to address the lack of international standards for the determination of constituents in smokeless products in view of future tobacco product regulation likely to require the reporting of constituent levels in smokeless tobacco.  Benefiting of wide industry participation, both in terms of products and markets, the CORESTA Smokeless Tobacco Sub-Group conducted a collaborative study to assess the repeatability (r) and reproducibility (R) of a selection of methods used to determine the pH, water, nicotine, moisture (oven volatiles) and tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) in nine types of smokeless tobacco products.
