The water-soluble polysaccharides extracted from bright tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum, Delhi 76) have been fractionated by chromatography on DEAE-Cellulose and evidence has been obtained for the presence of a pectinic acid with neutral sugar components and an acidic arabinogalactan both of highly branched structures and a linear pectin composed of α-(1-4) polyanhydro-D-galacturonic acid residues.
