Screening tobacco varieties for resistance to black root rot in New Zealand

Examination of the root systems of tobacco seedlings for severity of root rot attack has over the years given a reliable guide as to the resistance of varieties to this disease under field conditions. Levels of resistance were consistent from year to year relative to the·standard control, actual scores however, fluctuated somewhat as a result of environmental conditions and other factors.
