Influence of topping and density on tar content in dark and Burley tobaccos

COUSSIRAT J.C.; TANCOGNE J.
SEITA, Institut du Tabac, Bergerac, France
The results of many years trials at the Bergerac Institute show that topping and plant density have an influence on tar content in smoke. Of these two farming practices it is non topping which gives the lowest tar content. Increasing the density does not greatly reduce tar content but there is anundeniable reduction. Both dark and Burley tobaccos have been studied.
