The CV (Channel Ventilation) filter is a new type of cigarette filter and developed as one of the most attractive filters to satisfy the market requirements in the golden age of ventilation cigarettes. There have been developed three variants of the CV filter with respective features; CV-S, CV-Dual and CV-Dam. They all are made up of acetate core, corrugated tape thermoformed of acetate tow and high porous plug paper. The CV-S has longitudinal straight grooves around the core. The CV-Dual is a dual filter of CV-S and conventional acetate filter. The CV-Dam has one blocking member exquisitely arranged in each groove, which prevents an inflow of tobacco smoke into ventilation grooves. The cigarettes with the CV filters have excellent ventilation effect and small inhalation drag. The properties and characteristics of the CV filters, e.g., inhalation drag, ventilation rate and delivery of tobacco smoke, will be discussed in comparison with conventional ventilation filter.
