The factors influencing the synthesis of dihydroactinidiolide from ß-ionone, with silicotungstic acid (STA) as a catalyst and peroxyacetic acid as an oxidant, including the proportion of ß-ionone to catalyst, reaction time and temperature, mixing time and quantity of peroxyacetic acid were investigated. It indicated that the optimum synthetic conditions were: 10.0 g ß-ionone in 30 mL peroxyacetic acid (mixed for 24 hours) reacted in the presence of 1.5 g STA at 40° for 6 hours, under which the yield of dihydroactinidiolide was 53.9 %, which was 20.4 percentage points higher than the synthetic process reported in literature.
